If you haven’t heard of a Bushwhacker before, you’re in for a treat! Among my many adventures, I worked on a dive boat based out of Roadtown, Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. I was 21 when I had to make my first batch of Bushwhackers and will never forget the mindblowing flavor combination!
Keep in mind, the Caribbean knows their Rum, so make sure you use the best dark rum you can afford! Combined with coffee, this makes a rocking drink for any occasion, but it’s one of my favorites in the hottest of weather, and in the afternoon since it feels rather naughty!
The usual ingredients include Bailey’s Irish Cream, Grand Marnier, Kahlua, Dark Rum, and a dash of nutmeg on top. While that’s A LOT of booze, I modified the original recipes so that you don’t have to go for broke and can still enjoy the flavor story. That said, while this recipe of mine uses far fewer ingredients it has a twist with a nice kick of salt coming from the oreo’s cookie, which, in my opinion, adds a touch of the Caribbean sea feel that this strongly needs when not actually there.
I wouldn’t say this is a drink you can drink often, but definitely, a good one to have once in a blue moon or on a special occasion! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do and drink responsibly when partaking in it!
